The 2013 CAAD8 draws on Cannondale's decades of aluminium engineering expertise to bring a remarkable level of performance to the entry-level road category. With someone's all-important first road bike purchase, it's the details that determine whether it gets ridden regularly or hung in the garage.

By far the lightest frame in its class, the CAAD8 shares many of the features and tube shapes of the CAAD10 and mates them with a slightly more forgiving geometry.

The trademark smooth doublepass welds, compliant and comfortable SAVE rear stays, efficient asymmetric chain stays, and unmistakable Cannondale ride-feel make it clear that, rather than being just another aluminium road bike, this is something special.

Cannondale CAAD8 - highlights

HEADS UP RACE GEOMETRY - The CAAD8 shares the proven race geometry of its more expensive brethren but with a slightly taller head tube (+1.5mm) for a more relaxed riding position.

SAVE STAYS - Optimised chain stay and seat stay shaping provides lateral rigidity while providing vertical compliance for bump absorption and comfort with no loss in power transfer.

SMOOTH WELDS - A true smooth weld, rather than the sand, putty, and paint "smooth welds" of other makes, Cannondale's trademark double-pass smooth weld technology eliminates the stress-risers and weak points found on traditionally welded frames, enabling them to build lighter, stronger frames.

ASYMMETRIC CHAIN STAYS - Just like on Cannondale's premium race bikes, they oversize and reshape the driveside chain stay to better handle the loads from the drivetrain, while keeping the non-drive stay svelte for weight savings.

EXTERNALLY MACHINED HEAD TUBE - A technique Cannondale has used for years, excess material is precisely machined out of the low stress areas of the head tube, saving significant weight with no loss of strength.

TAPER-BUTTED TUBES - Like the legendary CAAD frames of the past, the CAAD8 features 6061 aluminium which has been taper-butted and heat-treated to a T6 hardness. The smooth transitions provided by taper-butting eliminate the internal stress risers of traditionally butted frames, again allowing a lighter, stronger frame.
