Cannondale's trademark double-pass smooth weld technology eliminates the stress-risers and weak points found on traditionally-welded frames, enabling them to build lighter, stronger frames. HOURGLASS SEAT STAYS - The hourglass shape of the seat stays offers significant vertical compliance for comfort and control over rough surfaces, while remaining laterally rigid for solid power transfer and confident handling. ASYMMETRIC CHAIN STAYS - Just like on Cannondale's premium race bikes, they oversize and reshape the driveside chain stay to better handle the loads from the drivetrain, while keeping the non-drive stay svelte for weight savings. EXTERNALLY-MACHINED HEAD TUBE - A technique Cannondale has used for years, excess material is precisely machined out of the low stress areas of the head tube, saving significant weight with no loss of strength. TAPER-BUTTED TUBES - Like the legendary CAAD frames of the past, the CAADX features 6061 aluminium which has been taper-butted and heat-treated to a T6 hardness. The smooth transitions provided by taper-butting eliminate the internal stress risers of traditionally-butted frames, again allowing a lighter, stronger frame.
