Genesis Day One Alfine 2013

A bike originally conceived for conquering long distance paths, this bike has become a super commuter in its own right. Stand beside any cycle highway in London at rush hour and I can guarantee you will see at least one of these elegant steeds fly past.

The Day One Alfine takes the low maintenance and clean line simplicity of the Day One Cross and adds to its versatility by giving you a rock solid hub gear, and top stopping power from disc brakes, to deliver a bike that can truly take you anywhere with the minumum of fuss. All the spirit of the Day One Cross tweaked for more extreme terrain or an easier ride over rolling terrain!

Like the Day One Cross, the geometry suits spinning along miles of towpath, tarmac and trail in comfort as well as lighting up on the singletrack, wet or dry. Disc brakes give exceptional control from the short reach, shallow drop bars.

A Reynolds steel frame with a Cr-Mo fork – simple on the surface and detailed below it. Strong Cr-Mo tubes are double-butted and TIG welded to within a fifth of a degree accuracy.

Slim 16mm seat stays reduce trail feedback and the same chainstays as used in Genesis mountain bikes mean you can crank as hard as you need to get the Day One over the crest of the steepest of hills. A small down tube to head tube gusset adds to its ability to handle off-road use.

With drop bars for maximum ride comfort and all-day efficiency and a parts list that’s both reliable and minimal, it’s perfectly suited to anything from the daily commute to inspiring epic rides. Add a frame bag, a rear rack and rolled-up bivi gear and it could inspire an epic lifestyle!

Now available in two versions - a Reynolds 520 steel frame with Alfine 8-speed hub gears or the new ultra responsive Reynolds 853 steel frame with Alfine 11-speed hub gears.
