Genesis Day One Cross

In the beginning there were balloon-tyred roadsters. Riders hauled a single gear over high cols and rough-stuffed while covering distances that would earn hardman status today. The Day One is a bike that takes that spirit and sets you up for rides that could take you anywhere.

The geometry suits spinning along miles of towpath, tarmac and trail in comfort as well as lighting up on the singletrack, wet or dry. Mini v-brakes give total control from the short reach, shallow drop bars. Single-speed gearing sets the pace for long rides or short-haul city use. Maintenance goes to the back of your mind and opportunities come to the fore.

A Reynolds 520 frame with a Cr-Mo fork – simple on the surface and detailed below it. Strong Cr-Mo tubes are double-butted and TIG welded to within a fifth of a degree accuracy. Slim 16mm seat stays reduce trail feedback and the same chainstays as used in Genesis mountain bikes mean you can crank as hard as you need to on the single gear to get the Day One over the crest of a hill. A small down tube to head tube gusset adds to its ability to handle off-road use. cable guides sit on top of the top tube to make hike-a-bike sections more comfortable and the track ends have built-in tensioners to make wheel positioning a simple job.
