Look 596The new Look 596 was developed using the Formula 1 wind tunnel in Nevers Magny-Cours. One of the unique features of this facility is its moving floor, which allows wheels to roll as they would on a road while cycling. Look's testing demonstrated that if the tyre is too close to the frame the turbulence caused by the meeting of air currents generated by the rotating wheel and forward motion actually slows the wheel of the bicycle - opening up the space between the seat-tube and the tire allows this turbulence to dissipate. Aerodynamics and frame rigidity often conflict with each other, so Look engineers have focussed on retaining frame stiffness and power transfer by oversizing frame tubing and optimising carbon fibre choice in key stress areas to create a frame that can deliver up to a 10% performance increase in real-world racing conditions. The frame is constructed in three sub-assembly monocoques - front triangle (ncluding seat tube), right rear triangle, and left rear triangle. The attachment of the stays to the main triangle is done using an aerospace technique that increases the contact surfaces between the connected tubes to improve the strength and rigidity of the joint area. The R32 E-POST seatpin offers +/- 32mm fore-aft adjustment using a reversible saddle cradle. The offset aero LOOK fork was the object of the same aerodynamic research that was carried out on the frame, and when you look at the frameset head-on, the frame almost disappears behind the fork - while at the same time the integrated indexed stem creates a ultra-stiff cockpit. Look's offset aero fork design was one of the first of its kind and remains one of the most copied front fork designs in the industry - this fork however remains one of the narrowest profiles as it does not require a conventional steerer tube design. For 2010 Look have introduced the concept of authorised Test Centres to ensure that their frames will only be available from dealers with proper knowledge of such an advanced product. It is also a condition of the 2010 Look warranty that customers must visit an authorised dealer for a face to face consultation at some point before the bike/frame is handed over (either prior to ordering or on collection), to make sure that the correct product has been supplied, and that it is properly set up for the rider. We are of course more than happy to offer advice over the telephone or via email, but you will need to visit us before completing your Look purchase - all frameset and bike purchases from Epic Cycles include a free professional fitting session, during which we can discuss alternative specifications and fine tune component sizes so that the bike is a perfect fit for both your body geometry and riding preferences. All Look cycles come to us as framesets, which can then either be built up into complete bikes in our workshop using components of your choice or supplied as framesets on their own - listed below is just one sample build using the Look 596 frameset. Our Look demo fleet is now ready for test rides - the in store photos below feature our latest 596 customer bike. >> Contact us for more information on the Look 596
