Trail riding in the UK is tough on bikes. For some a cross-country ride can literally cross the country, for others it’s day in, day out use on wet, gritty trails.

Genesis demand bikes with something in reserve when the trial throws a dose of the unexpected at you; bikes that are light but tough, comfortable but capable. In all cases, the steel and Ti-framed Latitude range delivers.

Latitude bikes have both won group-tests and ‘bike of the year’ commendations in the mountain bike press, showing that the desirable ride feel of steel doesn’t always mean high prices. Genesis Latitude - Key Features

Titanium: The Latitude Ti is the most technically advanced frame in the Genesis range. At a quick glance it may just look like any other Titanium hardtail frame, but every tube, weld and frame feature has been designed and engineered from scratch by Genesis to offer the ultimate trail ride. Using a fully butted, 3V-2.5Al Grade 9 seamless and cold-worked tube set with a feature list that’s been designed from scratch to offer everything for the demanding trail rider.

Steel: is a fantastic material to make bicycles from and its properties offer many benefits to both frame designers and ultimately the rider. Steel is strong, very strong, which means tubes can be made extremely thin walled which gives the frame a lovely comfortable ride, but a ride which is also alive, beautiful and engaging. It’s a connection to the bike that anyone who has ridden a good steel-frame will know about. Its high strength means simple narrow tubes can be used which give a lovely clean aesthetic, which is both functional and beautiful.

Reynolds: Genesis work closely with Reynolds in the UK to incorporate modern bicycle standards into their steels; a fantastic example of this is the XX44 steel headtube which was dreamt up at Genesis, but it was Reynolds who were able to make it a reality. A simple design which allows modern tapered steerer suspension forks to be fitted to a classic steel hardtail frame.

Solid Shimano specifications mean reliability and serviceability is as good as it gets. The frames are CEN-rated Reynolds 520 Cr-Mo to ensure long-term durability for 100-130mm forks, even under the most demanding riding conditions.

Genesis have worked closely with Reynolds on specific tube dimensions and wall thicknesses to produce a light, comfortable and gusset-free 120mm-fork optimised 853 steel frame. The 853 top and down tubes are triple-butted to place maximum material at the head tube weld for fatigue resistance. The tapered and ovalised top tube optimises both lateral stiffness and overall comfort.

The heat-treated Cr-Mo seat stays are very slim and the asymmetric chainstay design gives room for 2.4” tyres and narrow Q-factor 2x10 drivetrains, or enough ring clearance to almost eliminate chain-suck issues with standard triple chainsets. The Latitude 853 frame may be about as good as steel hardtails get.
