Racelight Gran Fondo

The GranFondo frameset from Kinesis is an excellent example of matching frame material to purpose - in this case sportive riding, audax or fast training. Carbon may be the latest fashion, but alloy tubes can do some things just as well. Scandium is the ideal material for a frame that needs to be responsive and lively, but retain some resiliance to cushion the blows of a long distance ride.

Kinesis have used Easton Scandium ‘GX2’ taperwall tubing in their Gran Fondo frameset, with flared sections at the headtube helps to avoid lateral flex and give a really direct steering feel. Scandium has the spring of steel but with the light weight of advanced alloy. Carbon plays it’s part too, with the carbon seat stays and Selcof carbon post taking out some road buzz and the carbon fork is tuned and shaped for some vertical compliance whilst keeping that direct handling feel.

We all know that Sportives are not a race, but there is certainly a competitive element in there. The GranFondo has plenty of race bike feel and is no slack angled tourer - the geometry is designed to be forgiving over the distance, with slightly longer (but not too long) headtubes and chainstays. The GranFondo is also a versatile frameset, with mudguard eyelets on frame and fork, and rack mounts. The frameset is designed for standard reach brakes, allowing ample choice of high end componentry.
